Hand-signed
limited edition giclée prints.
Framed or unframed.
Currently there are 8 fish each offered in various sizes, basically small, medium and large. Additionally, they all come in two typographical styles; the bold and fancy FLOURISH SERIES and the more understated CLASSIC SERIES. All sizes are limited edition giclée prints, flawlessly reproduced from the original acrylic paintings and printed on acid free rag paper with archival inks in vibrant life-like color. Each print is hand-signed and numbered by me. Prints come unframed in protective sleeves but framing is available too.
The Flourish Series
A flourish can be described as a bold or extravagant gesture made to gain attention – an elaborate literary expression – an ornamental flowing curve in handwriting or scroll work. The Flourish Series is all that. As fish out of water, absent their natural habitats of river, lake and ocean, my subjects needed a new home in which to swim. Rather than H2O, I chose a beautiful sea of letters. You’ll find them elegantly suspended among the swashes and ligatures of a modern font, to which I added the occasional embellishment, called Selfie. Fish Selfies, I guess you could say. They seem to be quite content hang out in their new home. I bet they’d be equally content hanging in yours.
The Classic Series
What makes a classic? My dictionary widget says it must be something that is memorable and a very good example of its kind, that over a period of time, it is judged to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its type and that it is remarkably and instructively typical. I am not presumptuous enough to call my works “classics” by any means. I mean, heck they are brand new, how can they be classics? At the same time, they are inspired by those that are. I have, for a long time been mesmerized and frankly down-right envious of the work of those artists, old and new, who have so faithfully and beautifully captured the exquisite creatures of the world in which we are so blessed to live. The Birds of John James Audubon. The fish of Sherman Foote Denton, and more modern greats like Flick Ford, Paul Vecsei and Joseph R. Tomelleri, whose fish studies I have been inspired by for years. So I must give them the credit they are due as I finally try my hand at painting a fish or two myself. The Classic Series, I guess, is dedicated to those who inspired me to paint a fish as well as catch one.
The Troutfecta Series
If you like to fish, like I do, then you may have heard the term - Trifecta. Seems as though it has it's origins in horse racing, where some one predicts the horses who finish first, second and third. I guess the world of fishing kind of put their own spin on it. And then a friend of mine's fly-fishing son trumped the phrase. This same friend wanted to buy some trout prints for his sons, Jonathan and Josh for Christmas. Problem was I hadn't painted any trout yet. Which was sad because i really, really, really like trout. Well, I decided to solve the problem by painting a few. And on top of that use Josh and Jonathan's catches for reference. On October 9th 2016, Jonathan had this one "Perfect Day" in North Carolina, on the East Fork of the French Broad River. He caught a Rainbow, a Brown and a Brook all in net-busting sizes. I saw the post on Instagram and noticed he had used the word "Trifecta" and then went on to say "Scratch that....maybe it's a TROUTFECTA!" Jonathan got a personalized one of a kind gift and i got to do my first trout paintings. Thanks to Jonathan you can hang a well-rounded piece of fly-fishing perfection on your wall. Available in one print or as group of three individual oness.
